17th January 2005 - Annual General Meeting

On Monday 17th January 05 the branch held it's AGM at the Holiday Inn, Bristol-Filton. The evening was well attended by the members.

S.Cole the outgoing chairman convened the meeting, and following the apologies and acceptance of the previous AGM minutes gave his Chairman's Annual report to the members. It reflected on a successful year for the branch, which had completed a full programme of technical evenings held at both Frome and Wick.

A wide variety of interesting Subject matters had provided knowledge, learning, debates and discussions all within the spirit of the institute.

Through the year the branch had continued it's theme around the CPD, of it's members whilst actively striving to look at ways of promoting and bringing people into our industry from all levels and backgrounds.

The election of a membership liason officer to promote the branch, in particular to students was an initiative that J.Ford had been assigned has made a successful start and it is hoped will progress further during years to come.

The Branch Golf day organised by P.Restorick had once again proved to be a successful day for all those who attended and took part. The Members paper evening had produced two excellent papers, with the overall winner going to Andrew Open from J.Wainwrights with his presentation of employing a deaf person at the quarry driving a quarry dumptruck.

The branch has launched it's own web site this year www.quarrying-woe.co.uk , to provide it's members information on all the branch activities and contacts.

All this effort resulted in the branch being awarded the winner of the President's Trophy, which is indeed an accolade.

In summary Steve thanked all the committee, for their support and the members for contributing to the success of the branch.

Finally the election of committee for 2005 was done. The changes were as follows:

  • Kevin Sargent has now taken over from Steve Cole as the Chairman of the branch. Steve will remain as Ex Officio.
  • S.Davies, time served has been re-elected along with R.Piper.
  • New committee members A.Clark and P.Clark were welcomed.
  • The AGM was concluded with the incoming Chairman K.Sargent awarding Steve a plaque for his term in office and thanking him on behalf of the branch for all his efforts.

A hearty meal was well received by all those who stayed on after the meeting.
