10th March - New European Specifications for Aggregates - John Bradshaw-Bullock (Foster Yeoman).
John made an excellent job of presenting a dry subject and making it relevant and interesting to the meeting of over 100 members and guests from IHT and IAT.
He outlined the history behind the development of the standards. The new Standards themselves were outlined along with the concept for them and their structure. He went on to show his holiday slides before returning to the timetable for implementation and the new testing methods.
The main point he stressed was that although the methods and sieve sizes are being changed this has been undertaken in such a way that the products will still be the same, providing they are within specification.
John explained the new concept of Factory Process Control and how it varied from the quality control we were are familiar with.
The paper closed with an explanation of the complex issue of the new CE marking which has to be product specific, with many companies were planning to use their websites for customers to access this data.
