13th October - Aggregates Levy Funding for Wild Spaces - S Glos County Council
The speakers gave a fully illustrated talk on how wild spaces had been created at woods adjoining Hanson's Wickwar Quarry. This included access by local residents as well as schools for educational purposes. Details were also given of the site of old lead workings near RMC's Wick Quarry that had been partially restored to preserve the industrial archaeology of the area.
The interesting point on both projects was that they had almost become victims of their own success with the number of visitors being attracted to the sites.
In the past funding had been jointly between the ALSF and the County. Concerns existed as to whether the ALSF would be continuing and also the proposed changes with English Nature were worrying.
