16th June - Field Visit - Kempsford Quarry - Bardon Aggregates
Over 60 branch members and guests attend the field trip visit on one of the hottest days of the summer to see the recently commissioned plant at Kempsford Quarry near Cirencester.
Based in the Cotswolds the gravel being worked is Thames gravel, which is glacial derived Oolitic limestone. Generally less than 40mm with a high sand content.
The visitors were shown the site and plant in operation. Some of the complexities of working the deposit included a high water table and operating in close proximity to the large US airbase at Fairford with restrictions on lake area to minimise risk of birdstrike.
The event was a by also supported by Finning who provided a demonstration machine and a hospitality suite.
Following the field visit there was a pub supper and quiz evening sponsored by Volvo, which over twenty of the group enjoyed.
The branch was very appreciative to all those who helped put the event together and make it a success, in particular to Bardon Aggregates for allowing us to visit the venue.
