About West of England Branch - Institute of Quarrying

More details about the West of England Branch of the Institute of Quarrying.

The West of England is a thriving branch of the Institute of Quarrying with over 265 members in the West of England area with attendance at technical evenings averaging around 35-40. On four occasions we have been awarded the Institute of Quarrying President's Trophy demonstrating the contribution the branch makes in promoting the industry and the science of quarrying.

We support members of the Institute of Quarrying from Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset as well as welcoming visitors from other branches and people generally with an interest in the industry.

We try and provide and interesting and varied programme of meetings. Attendance at meetings goes towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) which is now and important element in the demonstration of competence as well as the development of knowledge of the quarrying and construction industry. We issue and annual CPD certificate for your records. We normally provide a buffet supper before meetings which is welcomed by those who have come directly from work to the meetings. Please try and let us know if you are planning to attend to help with catering.

In addition to technical evenings we also have a social programme which includes the annual dinner dance in April and usually a field trip in the summer.

Funds raised through the year by the branch are used to put on the technical evenings and contributions are also made to promote the industry either through a local charity or projects such as funding laboratory equipment at Doncaster College.
